It almost happened again.
A few weeks ago, I almost stopped breathing. The stress was unbearable and my body started reacting. Again. I had to force myself to take deep breaths.
In and out. In and out. Breathe.
Repeat. Just breathe. I mentally sifted through how I had gotten here, WHY my anxiety had reached this point, and how to combat it.
I needed a way to speak truth into the situation so I could regain my breath and release the tightness I felt in my chest. So, I reached for music. For me, it’s not just any music. One way I connect to the Truth (read: Jesus) that sets my anxiety free is through worship music. I went straight into Spotify and started gathering songs that I could identify with, ones that eased the stress and reminded me that God is willing, able, and more than ready to carry my anxiety for me. My shoulders started to relax, the tightness released, and I was able to breathe again. Thankful tears came.
That day, I made a playlist in Spotify just for times like this, when I need to move closer to God and hear the truths I need to release myself to his control.
