Hugging her mom was all Shelby needed to let the tears flow down her cheeks Saturday morning. Weston’s letter kept them rolling, and they threatened to spill over right up until the moment this sweet couple said “I do.”
Nerves and excitement for such a big day are so common, and for Shelby, there was only one thing that calmed her: Weston.
The details of a wedding are one thing. You can plan everything–the shoes, the dress, the invitations, the reception decor. You can plan the ceremony and reception events down to the minute.
But the most important part of a wedding that no one ever plans for?
Emotion.
Emotion is the tangible significance of an event like a wedding day.
No matter what you believe, the importance of this day is real, and raw, and 100% present. It is so often treated like an unwelcome guest.
So for you, Shelby and Weston, don’t fear the emotion. Don’t play it off. You won’t ever plan for it, but it will always be there.
Instead, lean into it. Use it to understand your thoughts and to get to know each other even more deeply.
You two have been together for a long time, but there will allllllways be more to discover. New things to learn about each other and about your heavenly Father.
You’ll find that yes, being with each other may very well be calming, but there will be times that togetherness will bring out some of the hurt between you as well.
When those times come, walk through them willingly. Brokenness pushes us closer together and closer to Jesus.
And you know what else? Cherish alllll of it. Be playful and silly. Be willing to listen, and be kind. Be humble and real. Be forgiving and full of grace.
And above all else, be as close to Jesus as you can get. Together, and individually.
Because you know as well as we do that it is the Lord who builds the house. Trust him and seek him continually. With his faithfulness, failure is out of the question.
Love to you both!
xoxo
